Personality:

Nikolai is, in general, a big lug. While he is a big guy, he would never come off as intimidating, since he's always smiling awkwardly or giggling like a goofball. A hopeless romantic, his romantic endeavours are cheesy and almost never work (flowers and chocolates, a kiss in front of the fountain right when it goes off, etc.). Nevertheless, he has no problem attracting people, which is both a blessing and a curse. He's a sweetheart and an extremely caring person. He has a motherly instinct, which makes him prone to nurturing others, especially young ones.

As an upside to living in poverty, he can eat almost anything. A well-made liver sandwich can take him back to his childhood, and he sees no problem with smothering his food with fried onions, garlic, and sour cream. He also has a huge appetite, often requesting seconds at mealtimes. It would be a dream come true if he were to come across some salo here at school.

He can knit just about anything you can think of, but his specialty is scarves. Lately, he's been having a hard time because his hands are getting larger and more calloused. He's been to many parties where all they do is dance, and he knows his way around them. He's god awful at sports, but a slightly coordinated dancer.

His real passion, however, is the visual arts. You can often find him daydreaming, sketchpad in hand, about the bright colors, frosty landscapes, and friendly faces of his hometown. His dorm is adorned with his own pictures of just about everything: the school, his friends, home, the workers on the farm back in Russia. Whatever inspires him, really.

He isn't a bad cook, either. His parents taught him how to make traditional Ukrainian meals and desserts when he was a young child, and picked up where they left off when he was strong enough to move around the house.

When he gets older, he wants to be a fashion designer.

He has a hard time expressing his anger. He's come to associate uncooperation with being obnoxious and rude, so he generally will go along with everything that other people say; this has gotten him into plenty of trouble. Even though he is strong physically, it is the exact opposite mentally. He'll cry at the drop of a hat, and act mopey for the rest of the day even faster. Everything has to be his fault, not anybody else's, but he'll complain and whine about how 'awful' and 'unrecognized' he is. He's also pretty dumb and oblivious. He is always in a mess due to letting himself get dragged and kicked around. The only time he'll really stand his ground is when he believes that what's going on is really wrong or hurting someone else.

Appearance:

Nikolai is undeniably very tall for his age, currently residing at 6'1", but he grows at a nearly inhuman rate. He weighs 200 lbs, with most of his weight being muscle, though he still does have some baby fat on him (his cheeks especially). Most of his features could be described as blocky; square jaw, rectangle-like neck, blocky torso with no skinny parts to him at all.

He has extremely soft sandy blonde hair that rests at the bottom of cheeks. His bangs often get so long that he has to use a bobby pin, but for now, they just cover his forehead. His ears are large, and his eyebrows match his hair in color and are average size. His eyes themselves are wide and baby blue, but filmed over and therefore look a bit milky. His nose is more gigantic than average, for lack of a better word. Freckles dot the apples of his cheeks and bridge of his nose. He has yet to lose all of his baby teeth, but they're all pearly white.

His school uniform consists of a purple sweater vest and pants with black dress shoes.

History:

Nikolai grew up in a popular tourist area, not doing very well money-wise but rich with culture and politics. It was not until he was six that he first had to move; with the influence of a Polish foundation hoping to give many of the children in the area better homes, Nikolai was moved to live in his uncle's mansion in Russia. They lived happily for a couple of years, but the uncle's house rules were becoming more and more demanding, borderline on abuse. He tried running away, but that only got most of his meals taken away, forcing him to work on a nearby farm to stay alive. He moved back home at the age of 14, when the foundation had lost interest in the project and Nikolai was near starving to death.

Upon his return, he became deathly sick. He did not recover enough to be able to run around and play sports until about a year ago, but he still gets dizzy spells and, sometimes, becomes fatally ill for days at a time. His family figured it was because he landed in an airport to come home from Chernobyl, where he was pushed about by many people with radiation sickness.

Roleplay sample:

Step, kick, step, repeat. It was in this manner that Nikolai danced like a dork around his empty dorm room, adorned with socks, sweatpants, and a t-shirt, completely unaware that there was anything in this universe other than the music and his feet. The lights were off, and he couldn't visually tell what he was doing, but the routine was carved into his heart. It was a favorite of his home.

There were times when he missed being in Eastern Europe; playing with the little kids, kissing beautiful girls, eating and feasts and dancing with everyone in town right afterwards. Sometimes, he would even have a cigar with the older men! But it wasn't until he came here that he realized just how different all of these other places were. He found himself wondering, "Why doesn't every place have this store, or this restaurant?" He wasn't always the sharpest tool in the shed, and the result was a terrifying culture shock. As he stepped, his mind wandered to all of the different places, with their own dances and feasts, that there were for him to be inspired by.

It wasn't until three hours later that he recalled his homework, left undone, on the desk. He hurriedly shut off the music and sat down, rushing through his work and trying not to get too teary-eyed. By the time he was done, it was late in the night, and he cried to himself until sleep eventually overcame him.

The application in general is good but it doesn't really feel like Ukraine anymore? Do you think you can change a few points to have him perhaps a little closer to the original?
